(TAP) – Prime Minister Youssef Chahed undertook on Thursday to ensure the payment of wages and dues of Shems FM’s journalists and staff, who have been on strike since May 29, till the final cession operation while guaranteeing the rights of the whole staff, the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) said Thursday in a press release.

During a meeting Thursday with SNJT President Neji Bghouri, Chahed also undertook to preserve “the editorial aspect” of the enterprise, the rights of staff and consolidate them and to speed up the examination of poor management cases recorded in the company during the past years, while consulting with the administration for the regularisation of the workers’ situation, case by case, the press release added.

Besides, the two sides agreed on devising a calender for the materialisation of the previous agreements concluded between the union and the government and the adoption of the necessary mechanisms for their follow-up.

As regards the public media, it was agreed on the occasion to immediately start the reform of the SNIPE La Press company and implement the previous agreements concluded between the two sides regarding the written press crisis, in light of the acceleration of the closing of several enterprises and dismissal of dozens of journalists.

Regarding the legislation governing the press and media sector, it was agreed to carry on work on this file as part of a participatory approach based on the gains and content of the Tunisian Constitution and the international standards in force
