(TAP) – Prime Minister Youssef Chahed chaired a meeting on Wednesday evening at the Health Ministry headquarters with Acting Health Minister Sonia Ben Cheikh, the directors of public hospitals nationwide and officials charged with the management of public health structures at the ministry.

Chahed pointed out that the situation in the public health sector should not continue, specifying that this sector has been living through a crisis since years and which has worsened after the revolution due to laxity, thus a solution should be found to this problem.

He added that it is everyone’s responsibility saying that: “Everyone is accusing the sector of laxity, impunity and bribery.”

There is a mismanagement issue that requires a solution, the Premier indicated, adding that what is happening in the health sector cannot be justified by the lack of financial and human resources but of laxity.

Chahed insisted on the responsibility and the role of everyone, government and structures, in protecting the public health in service of the citizen, stressing in this regard that if dereliction is proven in the death of newborns at the Rabta hospital, accountability will be ensured
