(TAP) - The work of the participatory dialogue on urgent challenges and measures for the public health sector kicked off on Friday at the City of Culture in Tunis, attended by 400 participants including professionals and stakeholders of the sector.

Chairing the session, Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said that all recommendations from the dialogue will be presented at a forthcoming cabinet meeting next Wednesday.

"This dialogue is intended to be constructive and open to all stakeholders in the health sector, away from populism," said the PM.

The economic crisis experienced in Tunisia since 2011 has led to the deterioration of the sector, he said, stating that 4,000 departures have been recorded in the Ministry between 2017 and 2018.

The meeting aims to provide answers to multiple issues facing the public health sector such as financing, investment, governance and equipment. It also provides an opportunity for representatives of professional and union structures in the health sector to present their reform propositions.

This meeting comes after the death of 15 newborns in the maternity and neonatal centre of Rabta hospital, which resulted in multiple calls for a reform in the public health sector
