National Security Council decides to extend state of emergency for one month as of April 6

(TAP) - The National Security Council, meeting on Friday, under chairmanship of President Beji Caid Essebsi, decided to extend the state of emergency for a month on the whole territory, as of Saturday April 6, 2019.

According to a Presidency of the Republic press release, the meeting reviewed the security developments at the local, regional and international levels, particularly in Libya.

Emphasis was laid on the gravity of the situation in Libya and on the need to avoid escalation and reach a political settlement based on dialogue.

Caid Essebsi had decided, on March 6, to extend the state of emergency for a month on the whole territory, from March 7 to April 5.

This measure was taken after consultation with the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the House of People's Representatives, said the Presidency of the Republic.

The state of emergency had been decreed since November 24, 2015, following the terrorist attack on a Presidential Guard bus
