(TAP) – The national strategy for the promotion of the family sector and the national five-year plan (2018/2022) were approved by a cabinet meeting held on May 8.

This strategy was devised on the basis of scientific data, statistics and an analysis of the family's current situation, a Ministry of Women, Family, Children and Elderly press release reads.

It is the first sector-based strategy of its kind in this field, the same source pointed out. Its goal is to collect data on the Tunisian family in compliance with international standards adopted in matters of family promotion, education, health, security, prevention, protection, entertainment, national identity preservation, establishment of the culture of dialogue, solidarity and civic conduct.

The strategy also aims to develop multidisciplinary policies and programmes for the family's benefit.

According to the ministry, this strategy is based on five axes, namely, “the family, laws and legislations,” “the family’s duties, roles and interior and external relations,” "families with special needs,” “the family at heart of sustainable development policies for the consecration of family entertainment” and “the communication and information plan for awareness-raising.”

The draft strategy is part of the implementation of the fiver-year development plan aimed to consecrate justice and equality between the regions and categories, in addition to the sustainable development goals for 2030.

It was devised by adopting a participatory and multisectoral working method and a joint vision as part of a national committee made up of governmental and non-governmental structures
