First part of RFR project to be operational end of summer 2019 (Transport Minister)

(TAP) - The first part of the Rapid Rail Network (RFR) project (the Zahrouni line) will be operational by the end of this summer, announced on Saturday, Transport Minister Hichem Ben Ahmed on the occasion of putting into circulation of 165 new TRANSTU buses at the El Bokri bus warehouse in the Ariana governorate.

Ben Ahmed said to TAP correspondent in the region that the services on 10 regular lines stopped because of a lack of buses, have resumed.

The government had concluded a deal to purchase 1,108 new buses for an investment worth about 180 million dinars. The delivery of these vehicles will be done in several stages. 97 ordinary buses and 65 double buses, equipped with security cameras, will be delivered in the coming weeks, said Ben Ahmed, specifying that these vehicles will reinforce the Greater Tunis public transport fleet to ensure the transport of approximately 190,000 additional passengers per day.

A Cabinet meeting on the Transport sector is scheduled this week. It will be devoted to the study of the recommendations of the national dialogue on transport and will take measures to structure the sector and to fight against the irregular and anarchic transport to solve the problems of the regional transport companies and those related to the maintenance of the national transport fleet.
