(TAP) - Prime Minister Youssef Chahed made on Sunday morning an unexpected visit to the Ariana municipal market, where he inquired about prices and supply of agricultural products.

The visit is part of fight against monopoly practices and rising prices during the month of Ramadan.

Chahed listened on the occasion, to the concerns of several citizens and traders about the rise in prices of certain consumer products and uncontrolled trade.

He laid emphasis on the importance of controlling the agricultural products’ distribution channels and countering monopoly practices by intensifying controls in the various commercial spaces, markets and premises open to the public.

Citizens mainly complained to the PM about the rise in the prices of some fruits and vegetables and called the government to take appropriate measures to punish the fraudsters, improve the levels of the consumer products’ supply and regulate the market for sensitive products as eggs and red meat.

Several traders at the Ariana municipal market called the government to eradicate lawless stalls in the vicinity of the market and surrounding streets, explaining that the anarchic trade has harmed them and is a source of nuisance for residents and traders inside and outside the market.
