(TAP)– Prime Minister Elyes Fakhfakh said Saturday the measures adopted by his government to address the impact of coronavirus spread are geared towards three major goals: Tunisians must not go hungry, minimised infection and job preservation ."

He also praised State instititions for efforts made, though shortcomings were observed , and told MPs as a bill on the delegation of powers to the prime minister was brought to the floor he trusts the country's ability to overcome this crisis .

"Tunisia is on the right track, imbued with a spirit of national unity which reflects the strength of national institutions and the maturity of the Tunisian people," he said. He renewed his call upon citizens to abide by the general lockdown, particularly during the next week which will see the peak of infections.

Fakhfakh said the government is keen to make sure all categories have access to exceptional assistance. A list of beneficiaries was established in less than 6 days on the basis of a digital database developed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Communication Technologies.

Over 150,000 social grants were provided in two days as recipients were directed to 1,000 different post offices at the rate of 80,000 beneficiaries per day that is 20 to 30 people per hour in each office. This in addition to distributing an overall amount of 150 million dinars over 1 million people.

Fakhfakh said 30,000 food parcels are being distributed, awaiting a further 30,000. 100.000 others will be distributed after Eid Al-Fitr feast. He called, in this vein, upon civil society and citizens to make donations to needy families as 274 educational establishments were made available for the collection and distribution of aid.
