PM discusses economic and financial situation with BCT Governor

(TAP) – Prime Minister Elyes Fakhfakh, on Wednesday, met with Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) Marouane El Abassi at the Kasbah Palace.

They discussed the economic and financial situation in the country and the challenges facing the national economy in the post-coronavirus period.

Fakhfakh highlighted the need to accelerate the pace of implementation of financing mechanisms for businesses affected by the crisis.

He stressed the need for a rescue plan in order to revive the economy, restore confidence and pave the way for structural reforms.

The PM urged reducing the external debt and relying on the country's own resources.

He also highlighted the necessity to fight irregular imports and increase exports to control the trade balance deficit and fight its impact on the dinar exchange rate.

El Abassi stressed the Central Bank's commitment to continue financing the banking sector to boost and carry out projects and investments and control inflation
