(TAP) - The Beit El Hikma meetings, which began Wednesday, in Tunis are a privileged opportunity to present a new formula for economic reconciliation by breaking with the prosecution of business operators in trials that last years, said Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi.

Speaking to reporters at the first encounter in a series of Beit El Hikma meetings, he pointed to a new approach to national capital with business operators, with whom was discussed the economic reconciliation. This means reconciling Tunisians with the investment and capital and reconciling Tunisian investors with the legal and legislative framework in the country, he pointed out.

The Prime Minister emphasised the need to end the prosecution of businessmen for years, expressing hope to see them regain confidence in the legal and judicial system, especially in the criminal policy.

Mechichi referred to economic sanctions that which have a negative effect on businessmen operators instead of taking advantage of their experiences, given the scope of their contribution to economic growth.

He pointed to other alternative approaches to achieve the desired objectives, through compliance with the law and ensuring the sustainability of business and investment.

Mechichi admitted the existence of administrative and legal bottlenecks to entrepreneurship and investment, saying: "we aim to lay down a new model as different as the economy through dialogue with businessmen and in partnership with national organisations, in order to win back confidence in the legal system and encourage investment to create wealth and jobs.

The meeting looked at a set of draft laws, such as the economic dynamics and the revision of the exchange code that must be submitted as soon as possible to parliament, Mechichi indicated.

He added that effort is now focused on the removal of administrative bottlenecks as part of a coherent project to limit authorisations for certain activities, from next week as part of the state’s policy to encourage investors.

The series of Beit El Hikma’s meetings with economic and social partners and a set of investors and businessmen take place to present the economic reform programme that will be later exposed to Tunisia’s international partners.

The meeting saw the presence of BCT governor, Marouane Abassi, President of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) Samir Majoul, Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) Noureddine Taboubi and several economic actors and businessmen.
