The Cabinet of the Mufti of the Republic :
It is one of the oldest national institutions, with religious vocation. It is located within the Prime Ministry, place du Gouvernement – Tunis.
The functions of the Mufti of the Republic are defined by decree n° 62-107 dated 6 April 1962; this decree amended the old decree of 28 February 1957 and according to which the Mufti was called " Mufti Adiyar Ettounisia ".
The Mufti, according to decree n° 62-107 dated 6 April 1962, assumes the functions of advisor of the State for the religious affairs and protocols, as well as any other responsibility which is assigned to him.
His eminence the Mufti is assisted in his work by executives having necessary competence to exercise the multiple and various functions which they are in charge of.
Functions of the Mufti:

To fix the beginning of each lunar month, and this, on the basis of the observation of the lunar crescent, and with reference to astronomical calculation as provided by the decree published in OGRT dated 8 April 1988 which fixes the methods to fix the dates of the Hegira years and the religious days.

To issue the certificates of conversion to Islam at the request of non Muslims of all countries and nationalities, with facilitation of the methods and shortening the deadlines.

To answer the questions which relates to the Islamic religion, either by correspondence or telephone on 71 563 939, and by fax on 71 561 633, or even in a direct manner.

To represent the Republic of Tunisia in the Islamic scientific seminars, and the Islamic international academies, by presenting specific studies.

To put forward opinions and advices about the schoolbooks and on all documents and studies in connection with the Islamic religion.
